Balloon Experiment: Hot Air Rises

Hot air rises like water vapour and here we have an ebay experiment demonstrating the same. This easy experiment will help draw a stark difference between what rises and what doesn’t, to add to your kid’s knowledge of the water cycle.

What you need:

  –  2 balloons

  –  2 plastic bottles

  –  2 bowls

  –  Ice

  –  Hot Water

Steps:

 1.  Attach the balloons onto the mouths of the two bottles. Add some ice to one of the bowls.

2.  Add some hot water to the other bowl.

 3.  Place a bottle in the bowl with ice and observe if the balloon inflates.

 4.  Now place the bottle in hot water and observe if the balloon inflates.

What do you observe? Is there any difference seen in the balloons?

The balloon will inflate when placed in hot water and will leave the kids in awe!

Use this as an educational opportunity to explain the science working behind this experiment. The hot air gets trapped in the balloon and it inflates.

This is the easiest experiment we have done so far and yet it teaches so much!
