Balloon Popping Experiment

Science is all we see from the time we are born. Even when we don’t realise, we are actually surrounded by science and plenty of its experiments.

This time we have come up with a science experiment for your toddler, making them realise how we are surrounded by science and how fun it is to apply such experiments. The simplest experiment that your child can have fun with is the Balloon Popping Experiment and learn the basics of pressure.

Balloons have been an element of thrill for the kids and as we go further with the experiment, I am sure your child is going to have a gala time being a part of it.

What You Need:

  • 2 Balloons
  • Several Thumb or Push Pins

Case 1

Blow a balloon and keep it on the top of one single pin.

What did you observe? Did it burst?

Case 2

Blow another balloon and place the balloon on top of 10 pins.

Now what did you observe? Did the balloon burst or it didn’t?

In conclusion to the experiment, we could observe that in the first case, the balloon did burst as it went straight through it, whereas in the second case the balloon did not burst and this happened because in this case, the pressure is shared between many pins across a larger surface area. This technically happens as the 10 pins that were touching the balloons were only pushing one tenth of hard  which is not enough to pierce the balloon.

Science went on to a new level of fun with this experiment. Your child will not only have fun doing the experiment but will also learn and memorize the concept of pressure in future.
