DIY Musical Instrument – Castanet

There are plenty of cardboards and cartons lying around in our houses which eventually go to waste. This time we have come up with a DIY musical instrument by re-using the cardboards kept in our homes. Instead of throwing them away, this time we thought of using it for the kids to learn and have fun with it and turn those cardboards into a castanet.

What You Need:

  • Cardboard or an empty carton
  • A pen or pencil
  • A Pair of Scissors
  • A Glue Gun Stick
  • Water colours
  • Soda bottle or Coke bottle caps

Step 1

Draw the preferred size of the castanet on the cardboard with a pen or a pencil

Step 2

Cut the piece of cardboard that you drew with the help of a scissor

Step 3

Take the glue gun stick and apply it on the edge of both sides of the cardboard and gently place the bottle caps on top of them.

Step 4

Fold the cardboard from between and then paint the cardboard from both ends.

Viola! Your castanets are ready to play with.

A simple and fun technique to make DIY musical instruments through waste. As it is said, creativity begins at home. A little something out of waste is how fun, nature and learning go hand-in-hand. Why go outside and buy things when your little ones can do all of it by themselves and also learn new things from it.
