Mental Health

Life can lose colors if you are mentally disturbed.

“Mental health is not a destination but a process. It’s not about how you drive but about where you are going.”

Close to 800,000 people die due to suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds. There are indications that for each adult who died by suicide, there may have been more than 20 others attempting suicide:  WHO

What is mental health for you? Is it being happy, or is it when you do not have any mental illness.

There are many types of mental illnesses people suffer from, and depression is one of them. It’s almost a taboo in our society if you suffer from one. Talking about it makes you think that you are going to be judged by people, and you decide to keep shut and suffer more. So much that after a point, it comes to a stage of no return. Sad, but true. People do talk behind your back and mock at you for being depressed. They call you crazy if you are suffering mentally, but not if they have diabetes or cancer.

I have known a few people with depression closely, and its worrisome to see them like that. You feel helpless, and your words don’t affect them much. Sometimes you want to talk to them, but they don’t want to talk to you, and sometimes they want to talk to you, but you are so busy in your life that you don’t have time for them. Both situations need attention. The attention of an expert, the attention of a therapist.

Only you can get yourself out of the situation of a mental disorder. You have to be strong enough and willing to come out of this. It’s tough but doable with the support of the people around you and that of experts. Be strong, have the will to add colors to your life.

Don’t be ashamed to get that help. It’s important to be happy for your own sake and for your loved ones.

With a little insight into the state of mind of people who need your help you can play a valuable role in supporting them to get the help they need. Be the support.

It’s okay to feel unstable, and it’s okay to disassociate. It’s okay to hide from the world and need help. Mental illness is NOT a personal failure. Be there to listen, find someone who would listen.
