Mom Guilt

MOM GUILT is definitely way more worse than PMSing.

I guess the mom guilt took over me when I got pregnant, months before my older one was born.

Am I eating right?

Should I drink alcohol cause it’s allowed as per the normal norms but my guilt won’t let me sleep.

Today is an eclipse I need to listen to elders and stay put, can’t move without that coconut in my arms – for those who know this superstition is BIG in India

And oh no I can’t have the three letter word starting with S. And if I do I can’t sleep at night thinking my baby might have a dent on his forehead.

I don’t breastfeed, I am a bad mother

Screentime guilt, going for work guilt, guilt for not behaving like some mother giving mom goals and the list goes on.

I don’t give as much time to the second one as much I did to the first.

Well, the good thing is because of giving a bit less time the second one is more independent, eats everything from an earlier age and can really get his way through anything.

My second born knows less.

Though mom guilt is a good thing as it lets us keep a check on ourselves and helps us improve, it also shows that we care for our little ones. But when is this guilt is the primary emotion in you which overrides feelings of love, empathy, care for your child, it may impact your parenting.

Please don’t let people around you add into your mom guilt. There is always a good mom or bad mom, the overprotective mom and the noncaring mom, the stay at home mom or the working mom, the breastfeeding crazy mom or the formula feeding not trying to breastfeed enough mom. There is never enough. YOU are a MOM and it’s okay to be whatever you want till you care about your child as much as you can. There are NO RULES in parenting.

It’s okay to let your kids see you struggle and express negative emotion. It’s okay for them to know that we are their role models also have emotional imperfections. Talk to them about their feelings and also yours to develop emotional intelligence in them. We definitely need to improve on ourselves for a few guilts that we have and for the others, tell them to GO JUMP IN THE WELL.
