Rotating Flowers: Hot Air Rises

Inspired by the water cycle and how water vapour rises, here’s a simple experiment to help kids learn how hot air rises!

What you need:

  –  A paper sheet

  –  4 candles

  –  A straw

  –  Glue

Steps:

 1.  Take a sheet and cut it into a circle. Make equidistant cuts on the periphery as well, and turn in the edges to resemble small triangles.

 2.  Attach a straw to a surface and place the flower on it. Light up 4 candles underneath the flower and watch it spin!

While performing this experiment, the kids will certainly questions how is heat making the flower spin.

The  science behind this experiment is that the hot air rises just like water vapour being hot, rises. Part of the water cycle self explains itself here.

And the rising hot air makes the flower spin!
