Vanishing Tube Experiment

Science experiments are always fun and educative. This time, we have come up with a vanishing tube experiment which I saw while figuring out some new science experiments. This experiment caught my eye and immediately tried it. Let’s figure out what this has in store for kids and us.

What You Need:

  • A Glass Jar
  • A Glass Chopstick or a Glass Stick
  • Canola Oil
  • Water

Step 1

Take the glass jar and fill it with one fourth water.

Step 2

Put the glass chopstick or glass stick in the jar now.

You would notice that the glass chopstick or glass stick is visible.

Step 3

Remove the glass chopstick or glass stick that was put in the jar.

Step 4

Add canola oil on top of the jar in which the water is already added.

Step 5

Put the glass chopstick or glass stick again into the jar.

Now you will observe that the glass chopstick or glass stick is not visible in the part that has oil in it.

The science behind this experiment explains that the light does not reflect between the canola oil and glass as they have the same refractive index. A science experiment which is so easy and educative at the same time. One must definitely try this experiment out with their kids.
