Magic Sand

Today, our plan of action to do a science activity was prepared with a thought. A simple thought that even young kids could try this fun activity and learn something amazing out of this. The activity that we are doing is called ‘Magic Sand’. The magic in that the sand sinks in the water and yet comes out dry.

What You Need:

  • Colored Sand
  • Fabric Protector
  • Tray
  • Water

Step 1

Spray a generous amount of fabric protector all over colored sand so that each and every grain is covered. Mix it really well.

Step 2

Spread it well and let it all dry.

Step 3

Once, it is dry, fill a transparent jar with water and then pour the sand into the water.

What do you notice?

The sand will make some amazing structures and shapes in the water and when you pull the sand out, it will come out completely dry.

The logic or the science behind this is that the fabric protector protects the sand grains against water which is why the sand comes out completely dry from a jar filled with water.
A simple yet an interesting experiment to try with the kids. This activity will make them learn science and logic in the simplest form.
